The SAGE committee and its various sub committees and working groups have been actively growing SAGE for 16 years. Many SAGE members have stepped up and contributed over the years and once again, we are earnestly asking you to consider if it’s time for you to ‘take a turn’ when the AGM takes place in September.
For the SAGE Committee, the SAGE NSW constitution allows for 10 members including the four office bearing positions of President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer. Most committee members have a secondary role on one or two of the SAGE sub committees or working group such as the Farmers Market, Stepping Stone Farm, education and events, SAGE Garden, community food & food share, communications, governance and grants.
The SAGE committee meets once a month in Moruya at 5.30pm, and if you can’t attend in person, you can Zoom in. You can see who’s currently on the committee on our website.
The committee gets involved with members, volunteers, budgets, financial planning, fund raising, governance, advocacy, communication and discussion and decisions related to the effective delivery of the various enterprises, projects and activities. One new activity underway but not yet launched is the new Micro Loans Project. New committee members are welcome to propose and manage new activities that align with the SAGE Strategic Plan or become involved with some of the existing activities.
Whilst the current committee members are generally acknowledged as quite wonderful (!!) they recognise and welcome the importance of change and new energy to ensure that SAGE continues to be vibrant, responsive to its members, and the community, and relevant.
Sub committee and working group members also meet regularly, but in a less formal manner. Members of these groups have a coordinator or team leader, and they are generally involved in a 'hands on' capacity to on their projects and enterprises, working closely with the SAGE Committee.
The AGM is on 21 September, and we encourage members to consider the opportunity and take the time to chat with anyone on the current committee, or the SAGE committee president Peter Heyward. Members of the SAGE committee can usually be found at the Farmers Market, monthly working bees, and SAGE social and education events. Please email SAGE Secretary for committee members contact details or more information.
July in the garden is time for observation, organising and planning for the season ahead.
Nicole Mensinga, SAGE member and Acupuncturist at Healing Hands Moruya offers some warming tips to support your body, mind, and garden this winter season.
It’s a crisp, sunny Wednesday morning, and a small group of volunteers are happily greeting each other at the SAGE Garden in Moruya. Over the next few hours, these volunteers will plant, weed and harvest the fresh produce, and deliver it free to local organisations that help people in need.
