Learning the art of preserving food through fermentation and pickling.

Saturday 9 March 2024 | SAGE Garden, Moruya

Does saving money, eating delicious food, nourishing your body and reducing food waste  all at the same time sound appealing to you?

SAGE and Eurobodalla Shire Council are holding two workshops during Food Waste Action Week this March. You will learn the who, what, how and 1, 2, 3 of preserving food through fermentation and pickling, held at the SAGE Garden, Moruya.

Attend one or both workshops to learn skills that:

  • Focus on ways you can avoid food waste by transforming excess harvests, wilted vegetables and bruised fruits into delicious ferments
  • Show you how to use leftover food scraps to reduce food waste in your home

Workshop 1: KimChi & Sauerkraut with Alex |  9am - 12pm
Alex is passionate about reducing waste and hates to throw away food that might have a little mould or be a little bruised, but could be used as something else. Alex has been experimenting with fermenting vegetables for years and enjoys the health benefits they give to her and the planet.

Workshop 2: Pickling Vegetables with Hatty | 1pm - 4pm
Hatty, previously of, Strange magic ferments, is a chef, gardener and student of herbal medicine who has a great love of pickles. In this workshop she will share what she has learnt about pickling with a focus on using up what you've got in the kitchen or garden to reduce waste.
